Room to get started

House of Art is a ceramics workshop in Ålbæk. You book the time that suits you and carry on with your own pieces — there is room at the tables, and the kiln is fired regularly.

You don't need any experience. If you have questions along the way, there is always someone to ask.

And a place to sit

The café is in the same house. Come in for something warm, browse the shelves, or wait while your pieces finish in the kiln.

The shelves also hold work by guest artists that you can take home.

You don't need to be a member to visit the café — but there are only a few tables, so please book ahead.

Everyone is welcome — no membership needed.

Alice

Hobby potter & teacher

Alice is a self-taught potter with a great love of clay and the creative process. She loves colour and enjoys experimenting with glazes to create unique results.

Mugs hold a special place in her heart, and she loves throwing and decorating them with quotes, words and small personal details.

Dorthe

Hobby potter, artist & owner

Dorthe has worked with ceramics as a hobby for the past few years and loves the creative freedom that both ceramics and art bring.

She founded House of Art and is passionate about creating a place where creativity, community and focus can flourish side by side.

Mads

Hobby potter & workshop host

Mads works with hand-built ceramics, focusing on form, glazes and the handmade look.

He mainly uses pinch, slab and coil techniques and is passionate about creative processes and communities.

Free access to the workshop

Membership gives you unlimited access to book time in the workshop, as long as there are free places. You book yourself in the booking system, and the membership is personal.

Pottery wheels, work tables, tools, glazes and the kiln are all at your disposal — everything you need is out and ready. You buy clay from us for DKK 95 per kg, and glazing and firing are included in that price. So there is nothing to work out along the way: weigh your clay, sit down and get started.

The workshop has a calm, friendly feel. Some come to focus on a particular piece, others come just as much for the company — there is chatting across the tables, coffee and plenty of looking at each other's work. You don't need any experience, and there is always someone to ask.

Before you use the workshop on your own, you join an intro class. We show you around, explain how everything works, and then you are ready to go. It is free for members.

Payment is taken monthly in advance, and you can cancel whenever you like — with the rest of the current month plus one month's notice. You have a 14-day right of withdrawal.
